It's rare when a meme hits both the J-fandom and the western fandom sides of my flist, so I took it as a sign.

Comment with a fandom and I will tell you my:

+ OTP
+ Runner-up
+ Honorable mention(s)
+ Crack pairing(s)
+ Ship everyone else seems to like, but I don't

Having accomplished today's baking/cooking plans (ham, mushroom and feta quiche), it's time to meme.

Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll give you either
(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon,
(b) a reason he/she sucks,
(c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes,
(d) five things that never happened to that character or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and why
You pick the character. I pick the letter.

I may actually manage to do this one.

Otherwise, today I have purchased tights (that I needed) and jewelry (that I didn't) and resisted a really kickass pair of boots at Urban Outfitters, and watched approximately half of what promises to be a sad movie starring my internet fiance Matthew Goode. (I got past the part where he's naked, though.)

Yes, I will continue with the drabbles sometime soon.

1. Shishido Ryoh/Atobe Keigo, Prince of Tennis
2. Adrian Veidt/Dan Dreiberg, Watchmen
3. Yanagi Renji/Kirihara Akaya, Prince of Tennis
4. Yaguruma Sou/Kageyama Shun, Kamen Rider Kabuto
5. Jack Bristow/Irina Derevko, Alias
6. Julian Sark/Rachel Gibson, Alias
7. Cho Hakkai/Sha Gojyo, Saiyuki
8. Scorpio Milo/Aquarius Camus, Saint Seiya
9. Tezuka Shinobu/Ikeda Mitsuru, Koko wa Greenwood

I think the most obvious thing to take from this list is I've been in one fandom for a really damn long time.

But surprisingly, my slash ship is not Spock/Kirk, as it was for TOS, but Kirk/Sulu. And my het ship is Spock/Uhura. I envision writing for both, possibly.

And now I'm off to find icons.

ETA: Also, "Live Long And Prosper" has never sounded so much like "Fuck you, Assholes" as when Zach Quinto says it.

Goddamn this fandom is full of crazy Rorschach fluff, and this seems wrong somehow.

I mean...fluffy. Rorschach. FLUFFY.

I realize it may be somewhat hypocritical to be perturbed by this as I have been known to write fairly fluffy Adrian Veidt, but still. Fluffy Rorschach is on another level of brainhurt.

I have, since Friday, saved 65 fanfics in my delicious account (which I started just for fic finding, I usually use Magnolia), and rather then simply reading them over and over again (which I've also been doing) I figured I might as well do a rec post.

The fact that I have absolutely nothing to do at work this week might also be a factor.

These will mostly be of the Arthur/Merlin slash variety as that's most of what I've been reading, but there may be some gen too. So here goes:

This is a longer list of fanfics than even I was expecting it to be. )

I think we'll leave it there for now.

It's not like I'm expecting Merlin and Merlin fanfic to accurately portray life in the middle ages, but for some reason a fic in which Merlin and Arthur play Go (yes, GO) is just a little bit beyond what I can buy. Also, if you need to provide a wikipedia link in a fanfic to explain to readers what a game is, maybe you should pick another game.

Just a thought.

I am now on my second trip through Merlin season 1, having rewatched the first four episodes (am on six now because, while Santiago Cabrera - yes, Isaac from Heroes - is very pretty, and very good as Lancelot...Lancelot kind of bores me :D;;;).

I have written fic.

My layout is Merlin-y.

I'm actually considering getting a region-free dvd player despite the fact that I'm pretty broke right now, because then I could get the dvds.

I am, frankly, doomed.

At first when I heard bitching and complaining about the fact that, horrors, the series is continuing, it was from some of the more annoying kind of fangirls (NOES TEZUFUJI WAS PRACTICALLY CANON HE'LL RUIN IT NOW!!!) so I thought, well, they're just idiots. But now that some members of my flist are groaning about it, I have to ask:

Why is this a bad thing, again?

[info]giving_ground  gave me Y.  I'm not surprised. :D

Yanagi Renji (Prince of Tennis).  I love Renji.  I love Renji more than any other character in Prince of Tennis (something that surprised some people a few years ago, but surprises no one now).  I love the "still waters run deep" thing he has going.  I love the polite superiority thing he has going. I even kind of love the fact that he left without telling Inui. He's quiet and complicated, but somehow I have no problems getting into his fictional head and imagining his relationship with the other characters.  Honestly, its to the point where when writing Rikkai fic, even if Renji doesn't appear in it (unlikely) his thoughts on the situation are like a running commentary in my head when I'm writing it.

Also, I own renji.org.

Yukimura Seiichi (Prince of Tennis).  A long, long time ago I didn't like Yukimura.  Then I was one of those people who wrote girly Yukimura fic (I'm sorry.  It was a really brief phase).  Now, I think he's awesome, and he's interesting, and he's scary as hell, and he's always kind of the center of things even if he technically isn't the center of things.  If that makes any sense.

Yagyuu Hiroshi (Prince of Tennis).  I've never been into Rikkai's D1, and I finally figured out a while ago that it's because I really don't like Yagyuu.  It's hard to articulate why, but I think it goes back to the whole switch thing.  He's supposed to be the gentleman, but he's not, not if he successfully impersonated Niou.  I don't know, I'm not entirely rational about it.  I did think the switch with Kaidoh was fun though.

Yamino Ryuunosuke (Matantei Loki). Yamino-kun!  I want him to be my housekeeper.  He can bake me pies, and turn into Jormundgard when people have pissed me off.

Kigai Yuuto (X).  We know pretty much nothing about Yuuto in the course of, what, 18 volumes of X? And I love him for being so cheerfully uninformative about himself.  And also for being a ho.  I would like to know at some point why he even involved himself in the final battle - he doesn't seem to care either way, and his little sister is terrified of earthquakes - but I suspect that if CLAMP ever goes back to it either a) they aren't going to tell me or b) it'll be that he was bored.  I can totally see that.

Nekoi Yuzuriha (X).  Yuzu is one of those characters who annoyed the shit out of me when I first started reading/watching X (so cute! and perky! and can I shoot her now!) but I started to like her more around the time of her fight with Fuuma.  At one point, I thought Kamui/Yuzuriha was adorable.  Really, I did.

Yatouji Satsuki (X).  Satsuki is another one of those characters I've never really gotten a handle on.  I mean, I think she's awesome, and I want a Beast of my own, but beyond that, I can't get into her.  Having said that, the crush on Yuuto is adorable.

Ma Yoo Hee (Witch Yoo Hee).  I kind of like Yoo Hee better at the beginning of Witch Yoo Hee than at the end, but I love that throughout the series she's blunt, geeky, and awkward and never quite masters relating to other people.

Yi Shin (Goong).  Shin's an ass, but he's such an amusing ass, and when I'm feeling down, I am incredibly likely to pull out my Goong dvds and watch the scenes when he's poking at Chae-Kyung.  And then I'll watch the ones where he's cute and romantic, because he manages to be both pretty seamlessly.  In the fandom, Yool is usually the male character who gets the most sympathy, and he's the nicer character throughout the series, but Shin is more fascinating and charismatic, and I just care more about what happens to him.

I could keep going, but I'll stop now.

So after a quiet summer business in the world of consulting has picked up and I've worked late every night this week and will probably be late to the beer tonight.  So in the interest of remaining sane while working with something less time consuming than reading jezebel.com (but I'll probably do that too), here's a meme, stolen from [info]yahtzee63:

I joined [info]saiyuki_manga last week (or the week before, it all kind of blurs together after a while) and so I've started re-reading Reload to refresh my memory. Last night I read v1, which [info]xandrabelle actually sent to me years ago as a birthday present and I've read dozens of times. Tonight I'll probably hit v2.

I should really also read Gensomaden and Gaiden because my knowledge of both is mostly from the anime. Specifically from the HK subbed version of the anime. I'm pretty sure my comprehension of what was actually happening was probably a tad off :D So I'm probably going to look into buying the entire manga from Amazon. Yes, it will be the American translation, which is probably pretty bad being TokyoPop, but I like reading my manga in books whenever possible, and I can't read Japanese. But it does look like they've translated through volume 8 of Reload.

I used to write Saiyuki fanfic pre-LJ. I liked the couple of fics I produced back then, both Hakkai-centric because, yes, he is one of the archetypal Muzy types of characters, but my foray into the fandom didn't go well. I have this problem where I'm not terribly concerned with small canon details :D;; so I never really wrote it much. I'm hoping to get back to it, possibly using my technique from PoT wherein my fic ideas take place outside of the main series timeline, allowing me a tad bit more freedom. Probably pre-series more than post-series since we don't know what the series outcome is yet, and it matters a lot more in a series like Saiyuki.

This post is getting rambley and I should get to work, so I'll stop here :D

I like to think of myself as fairly patient, so when [info]lady_of_water starting IMing me after the tenipuri friending meme, I was nice enough when I felt like talking to her and just ignored her when I didn't. This week, though, I had to use the banstick on AIM.

You know, blathering on about fanfic awards is one thing. I can nod and smile and ignore you. But when you start lecturing me about why I should vote for Ron Paul - and please, he's not even going to make it through the Republican primaries - when I've SAID that I'm a Democrat and when I've SAID I'm deciding between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton....well. You deserve the banstick. Good lord.

ETA: Ha! And this comment on her Ron Paul post is awesome.

Today's [info]fannish5 is going to be so predictable coming from me. I could probably do all Tenipuri. And will:

What five characters would you like to see get more attention in fan fiction?:

1. Kigai Yuuto, X. Yuuto's one of the least written about characters in X, and I don't know why. He's interesting, there's very little information about him so you could go wild with backstory, and he's hot. Come on, people.
2. Katya Derevko, Alias. I love Katya; she's one of the best parts of S3 for me, and she's a really strong female character, but you don't see much in the way of fic for her.
3. Kisaragi Shun, Koko wa Greenwood. There's not much Greenwood fic period, but especially not for Shun, who's really the most normal and well-adjusted character despite the fact that he looks like a girl.
4. Renee Rienne, Alias. S5 characters as a whole don't get as much love, because we didn't have enough time to get to know them, I suppose, but Renee is one of them who you rarely ever see in a fic. She's sexy! And French! And near the top of the Most Wanted list!
5. Cindy "Mac" MacKenzie, Veronica Mars. Of all the Veronica Mars supporting characters, Mac was my favorite. And you do get some fic for her, but it tends to be the Mac/Dick pairing, which I find a bit wtf. So. More.

Version Tenipuri!

1. Yanagi Renji. Okay, okay, as a member of one of the most popular rival schools, Renji does get a fair amount of love. But since a lot of it lately has been of the, um, Mary Sue variety. (look at [info]go_go_rikkaidai sometime and wince with me), I think he deserves more love. Preferably with Akaya, but I'd be thrilled with well-written troika or heck, Renji + Niou.
2. Oshitari Kenya. Shitenhouji is quite possibly the least loved rival team in Prince of Tennis (yes, Higa DOES get more love), and it's really sad because they're really awesome. Expect to see a few more Shitenhouji appearances on this list. Anyway, Kenya: he's fun! He's has intense and intensely stupid arguments with Yuushi on the phone, he's hot, and unlike his cousin, he seems like he's worked hard to get where he is. WRITE ME FIC, PEOPLE.
3. Hiyoshi Wakashi. Poor Hiyoshi. Arguably on the most popular school in Prince of Tennis, definitely the most popular rival school, and no one pays any attention to the poor boy. D: Piyo. D:
4. Shiraishi Kuranosuke. Kura's captain of Shitenhouji. He pwned Fuji in semi-finals. He keeps Kin-chan in line with a demon-arm. He purrs ECSTASY during tennis matches. And he's nuts (obviously). How can you NOT write about him?
4.5. Zaizen Hikaru. Who cares if Zaizen's sole appearance in a tennis match basically involved watching the Chitose/Tezuka battle? He's snarky, he's cute and he should be having sex with Kenya.
5. Chitose Senri. It's odd. Chitose and Tachibana have one of the best backstories to a match in the entire series, Chitose has super-cool zen-like teniskills, he and his captain have pretty sunset discussions that you'd think would have fangirls leaping on it, but there's just not much at all about Chitose. A few Chitose/Tachibana fics at the time of the match, but then nothing. Come on, fandom.

It kind of weirds me out and annoys me that there are now TWO Mizus in the fandom, and the new one is now starting to write Renjific. Why? I was here first, dammit. I've been Mizu since 2002. Yes, I am irrational and silly.

Also, I have noted that a writer I'm less than fond of due in part to reactions to criticism is now writing Chocotoast. But is at least not CALLING it Chocotoast. [/oblique]
